Who is Emory Dee Garner? Texas Man's 'Odd' Order for Children's Bunk Beds Lands Him in Jail
Police confirmed his arrest, revealing another offender lived nearby

A registered sex offender was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas, after furniture store employees alerted police to his disturbing enquiries about triple bunk beds that could accommodate 'at least three kids in each bed'—a total of twelve children.
Emory Dee Garner, 57, entered Fuze Furniture on Tuesday asking specific questions about children's sleeping arrangements that immediately raised red flags amongst staff.
The employees' quick thinking and subsequent investigation led to the discovery that Garner was a Level Two sex offender living less than one kilometre from a local elementary school.
A Bizarre Request Leads to Arrest
'He came and asked if we carry triple bunk beds, if we had them in full sizes, and if he could fit at least three kids in each bed,' a store employee shared in a TikTok video about the event.
'So four times three, that's a lot of kids,' another employee observed. In the video, the staff then appear to search for Garner's name on a sex offender registry. 'It seemed odd, so we went and looked... he's a level two sex offender,' store owner David Hamdan noted. 'Age of victim at time of crime, 16... you nasty son of a b---h.'
Notably, the Fort Worth Sex Offender Registry lists Garner's crimes as 'Indecency With A Child By Exposure.' In a subsequent video, an employee confirmed.
Disturbing Discoveries and Police Action
The staff also checked Garner's address and were even more unsettled by what they discovered: the home's front porch was enclosed from floor to ceiling with metal grilles. Similarly, the second-floor balcony was barred and shielded with panels, blocking any outside views.
These observations led the store staff to contact local authorities. After the event, Hamdan shared a TikTok update confirming that local police had visited the store to inform them of Garner's arrest.
'Update on the psycho freak that came to the furniture store, Fort Worth police came by today and said he has been arrested, he's locked up, he's not on the streets so good job everybody.'
He added that officers found two sex offenders residing together in the house, which is less than a kilometre from an elementary school. However, it remains unclear whether the police also took the second person into custody.
The Broader Picture: Sex Offender Registries Under Scrutiny
The incident involving Garner underscores the complex reality of sex offender registries. In the United States, current figures show a significant number of registered sex offenders.
A 2014 report from PubMed Central, drawing on data from NOMEC, Prevent Abuse Now, and the Criminal Justice Agency, indicated roughly 747,408 individuals were registered as sex offenders nationwide.
Of this total, approximately 265,000 were under the supervision of a corrections agency at that time. These registries are designed to help monitor offenders and inform communities, though their overall impact and challenges are widely discussed.
The American government spares no effort to implement strict policies and laws to manage, monitor, and restrict sex offenders from reoffending. These measures include mandatory sentencing, civil commitment, community notification, and GPS monitoring.
However, despite the significant costs involved, the report indicates there's currently little evidence to suggest these laws are effective in preventing offenders from committing new crimes.
Public Perception Versus Reality: Dispelling Common Myths
Contrary to widespread belief, sex offenders have amongst the lowest recidivism rates of all criminal categories, according to PubMed Central research. This finding challenges common assumptions that often drive public policy and community reactions.
Research by Olver and Barlow (2010) notes that sex offenders frequently face the most intense public reactions within the criminal justice system, including 'fear, disgust, and moral outrage.'
However, these reactions may stem from misconceptions, particularly the belief that strangers commit most sex crimes and that sex offenders invariably reoffend.
Community Vigilance Proves Effective
The Fuze Furniture incident highlights the crucial role that alert community members can play in maintaining public safety. The employees' decision to investigate their concerns rather than dismiss them as mere suspicions led directly to law enforcement intervention.
The case highlights the importance of trusting one's instincts when interactions seem inappropriate, especially when a child's safety is at risk.
Whilst sex offender registries remain publicly accessible tools for community awareness, the Fort Worth incident shows that human vigilance and responsible reporting remain essential components of child protection.
Local authorities have not released additional details about ongoing investigations or potential charges beyond the arrest. The incident serves as a reminder that whilst formal monitoring systems exist, community awareness and action continue to play vital roles in safeguarding vulnerable populations.
