Overview

World No 5 Nadal is playing arguably the best tennis since 2013 at the ongoing US Open 2016 and comes into this clash beating Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in the third round. The Spaniard is yet to drop a set in the tournament showing glimpses of the form that helped him win the title in 2013.

At the start of the US Open, Nadal was not expected to make much progress considering his injury and form issues, but he has proved his naysayers wrong and is now one of the favourites to win what will be his third title at Flushing Meadows.

France's Pouille has impressed in 2016 and is counted as one of tennis's rising stars. The 22-year-old who reached the quarter-final of the 2016 Wimbledon comes into this clash after beating 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the third round.

Pouille will not have fond memories of playing Nadal, losing the one time they met in the past but such has been the improvement shown by the youngster that he is capable of upsetting the Spaniard on his day.
