Pepe Reina's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has revealed the Liverpool goalkeeper is expected to play at Liverpool next season, even though reports claim he is not in Brendan Rodger's plans.

The Liverpool manager already lent Reina to Napoli last summer, following Simon Mignolet's arrival to Anfield, and recently hinted his future at the Merseyside club was over.

"He's already written his letter, hasn't he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn't he? I was surprised at the letter – when you are a loan player I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move," Rodgers said.

Reina still has a contract with the Premier League giant until 2016 and his agent claims that they are looking forward to meeting it.

'Reina will respect his contract with the English club. I am aware of the rumours circulating about the future of Reina, but I can confirm that Pepe will play at Liverpool next season,' he said to TuttoNapoli.

Even though he has returned to form at Napoli, following erratic campaigns at Anfield, Rafa Benitez recently said they are not going to prolong Reina's spell in the Serie A.

'Pepe has two years left on his contract at Liverpool. He has to go back and he'll stay there. We can't afford Pepe's wages. The Premier League is a very big league and, in Serie A, we don't pay big wages like in England. He will have to fight for his position at Liverpool,' Benitez said.

Benitez was happy with Reina and the Spaniard was likely to extend his spell at the Italian side, but Napoli may be unable to meet his salary demands. Liverpool still pays part of his €4.2m annual wage, as part of his loan agreement.

Reina has also been linked to Barcelona in recent times, but after the Catalans completed the signing of Claudio Bravo and Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, they are not interested in the Spaniard anymore.
