Police in France are searching for a 12 year old British boy who has been missing since a storm hit the south coast island of Porquerolles two days ago.

Pierre Barnes, from Grantham in Lincolnshire, was exploring the rocky area by bike when winds of up to 130 km hour battered the island. Rescuers have found one of the boy's shoes, as well as his bike, on a coastal path about 3km away from where his family were staying on holiday.

Here is what a passer-by had to say:

"A 12-year-old child who is being searched for since Saturday evening, it's an absolute horror. Especially if you ask yourself where he could have gone, you tell yourself that maybe he is 500 metres away, we are helpless, it's a horror."

Some other passers-by expressed how they felt about the news:

"Extremely worried, not very hopeful, honestly. Honestly, not very hopeful. The search is on since Saturday evening and now we're Monday morning. Very very worried, honestly."

"All the people of the village participated in the search. It's terrible. We wish the child is happy."

About 150 local volunteers are believed to have helped the police in their search efforts on Saturday to no avail. The search continues.
