Big Bang Theory Stars Sheldon and Howard Reunite to Mark 20 Years Following Distance Admission

Big Bang Theory stars Simon Helberg and Jim Parsons have reunited in a rare photo marking two decades of friendship, shortly after Helberg revealed that he does not spend as much time with his former castmates as he would like.

Helberg, best known for playing Howard Wolowitz, shared a smiling selfie with Parsons, who starred as Sheldon Cooper, over the weekend. The unexpected reunion delighted fans more than seven years after the hit CBS sitcom ended its 12-season run in 2019.

'How has it been 20 years since I met this gem of a human??' Helberg captioned the photograph.

The photo shows Helberg and Parsons smiling together beneath a blue summer sky, giving fans a rare glimpse of the former co-stars together away from the screen.

Their reunion quickly drew enthusiastic reactions from viewers nostalgic for Howard and Sheldon's often combative relationship on The Big Bang Theory.

'Guys, you can't post something like this and expect the fans not to go crazy,' one commenter wrote.

Another added: '20 years later and you expect us to be NORMAL about this?!'

The actors were part of the sitcom's core ensemble alongside Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki and Kunal Nayyar, with Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik later becoming series regulars.

Helberg Previously Addressed Distance From Cast

The reunion comes after Helberg spoke about how frequently he remains in contact with his former Big Bang Theory co-stars during an August appearance on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast.

'It's been a while since I've honestly talked to anybody,' Helberg said, explaining that 'everyone's busy' and the actors now occupy 'different corners of the world'.

Asked how often he connects with his former castmates, Helberg acknowledged that it was 'not as much as I guess I'd like to'.

His comments did not suggest a falling-out among the cast. Instead, Helberg attributed the distance to their busy lives and schedules since the sitcom finished.

Helberg Says He Still Texts Parsons

Despite seeing the wider cast less frequently, Helberg specifically revealed that he remains in contact with Parsons.

He said he still 'text[s] with Jim' and had plans to visit Parsons while in New York. Helberg also revealed that he and Nayyar, who played Raj Koothrappali, had been trying to arrange a drink together.

Helberg recalled that the last time the cast collectively spent time together after the series wrapped was during their final press tour in 2019.

The group taped an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert before heading out for dinner, according to Helberg.

He also praised the chemistry that helped define the long-running sitcom, saying there can be a 'magical element' when a television ensemble works particularly well together.

'Big Bang Theory' Franchise Continues After 2019 Finale

The Big Bang Theory concluded in May 2019 after 12 seasons and 279 episodes, but the franchise has continued through several spin-offs.

Prequel series Young Sheldon ran for seven seasons before ending in 2024, while its story continued through Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. The franchise has since expanded further with Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

The latest spin-off has brought back characters associated with the original series, further fuelling interest in appearances from other former cast members.

Helberg, however, previously played down the prospect of reprising Howard. Speaking to Screen Rant last year, he said: 'There's no plan for Howard to come back at the moment.'
