Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is in need of an additional striker to bolster the club's attacking threat, with a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal in danger of costing the Reds' a Champions League place.

With Andy Carroll yet to adapt to life at Anfield and Luis Suarez facing an extended period on the side-lines having accepted his eight game ban, the club are expected to bring in additional recruits this month.

Liverpool's profligacy in front of goal - they have managed just 24 goals in 19 Premier League matches - has led to reports the club are interested in Aston Villa's Darren Bent and FC Twente's Luuk de Jong.

Liverpool are also in the market for an additional midfielder, following Lucas Leiva's knee injury, as well as cover in defence.

Dortmund's Neven Subotic and Lille midfielder Eden Hazard have been linked with moves to Merseyside, while Inter Milan's Christian Chivu is another target.
