Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to careless driving after his Lamborghini pulled into traffic and forced two vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a collision in Cheshire.

The 32-year-old was driving a blue Lamborghini Urus in Knutsford on 14 April when a police officer witnessed the incident. Pickford later admitted driving without due care or attention and is due to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court for sentencing on 7 December.

Court documents detail how what began at a give-way junction developed into a police pursuit through the town.

Two Cars Forced To Brake

PC Cecil Ricardo of Cheshire Police said he had just left the police station when he spotted Pickford's Lamborghini travelling along Princess Street.

According to the officer's statement, the vehicle reached the junction with Toft Road and ignored the give-way markings before pulling into the road. The manoeuvre forced two other vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a collision.

Ricardo said the Lamborghini then accelerated along Toft Road, prompting him to activate his police vehicle's lights and siren and follow.

The officer said his own vehicle reached 50mph while travelling on the road, where the speed limit is 30mph, but the Lamborghini was 'still pulling away'.

That does not establish Pickford's precise speed at the time. The court material instead records the speed reached by the pursuing police vehicle.

Pickford subsequently appeared to notice the police car behind him and pulled over.

Pickford Pleads Guilty

The England goalkeeper pleaded guilty in writing through the Single Justice Procedure to driving without due care or attention.

Pickford also requested an opportunity to appear in court personally to present mitigation before he is sentenced. "I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation," he told Warrington Magistrates' Court in his written response.

The case was formally adjourned last week and will now be heard at Chester Magistrates' Court on 7 December. No sentence has yet been imposed.

The incident involved a Lamborghini Urus valued at approximately £200,000, according to court reporting.

His request to attend court means Pickford will have an opportunity to put forward circumstances he believes should be considered before his punishment is determined. The guilty plea itself has already resolved the question of his responsibility for the careless-driving offence.

England No.1 Awaits Sentencing

Pickford remains one of the most experienced members of the current England squad. He has made 336 Premier League appearances for Everton and earned 92 England caps, featuring at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

The goalkeeper was also England's first choice during the national team's runs to the European Championship finals in 2020 and 2024.

His guilty plea means the case is no longer about determining whether he committed the careless-driving offence. The remaining court process will concern sentencing and the mitigation Pickford has asked to present.

The near miss therefore leaves England's long-serving No.1 awaiting a different kind of judgement away from football, with Chester Magistrates' Court set to determine the consequences of his admitted careless driving in December.

The December hearing will determine what penalty Pickford ultimately receives.
