Apple has confirmed a special event streamed worldwide on 9 September, when the company is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside its first foldable iPhone. While leaks have supplied possible release dates, specifications, features and prices, Apple has not confirmed the new handsets or their final configurations ahead of the event.

The event, carrying the tagline 'Surprise and shine,' will begin at 10am Pacific Time and stream through Apple's website, Apple TV and YouTube. Apple's invitation does not name any forthcoming iPhone, meaning reports about the iPhone 18 Pro range and the foldable model remain unofficial until executives take the stage.

IPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: Expected Specs and Release Date

Reports suggest Apple will retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max respectively. Both are expected to use a new A20 Pro processor manufactured on a 2-nanometre process, potentially improving performance and power efficiency.

The display design may also change. Several leaks point to a smaller Dynamic Island, although reports disagree over whether Apple will move some Face ID components beneath the screen this year. The extent of any redesign therefore remains uncertain.

Camera upgrades could be more substantial. The Pro models have been linked to a 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture, which would allow greater control over how much light reaches the sensor. Some reports, however, suggest particular camera improvements could be limited to the Pro Max.

Apple has not announced pricing. In India, recent estimates reported by Mint place the iPhone 18 Pro at around ₹139,900 (£1,097.21) and the Pro Max at approximately ₹159,900 (£1,254.07). Those figures are forecasts rather than Apple prices.

Release timing is also unconfirmed. With the keynote falling on Wednesday, 9 September, current speculation points to 11 or 12 September for pre-orders and 18 September as a likely retail release date for the Pro models.

Foldable iPhone Could Be Apple's Biggest New Entry

Apple is widely expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone. The device has frequently been referred to in reports as the 'iPhone Ultra,' although Apple has not confirmed that as its retail name.

Rumours point to a book-style design with an outer display of about 5.5 inches and an inner screen measuring roughly 7.8 inches when unfolded. The handset is also expected to use an A20-series processor and two rear cameras.

One of the more unusual reported changes concerns biometric authentication. The foldable iPhone is said to use Touch ID integrated into its side or power button rather than Face ID, potentially helping Apple conserve internal space in a thinner chassis.

Price could place it well above the conventional Pro range. Industry reporting has suggested a US starting price of at least $2,000 (£1,482.44), with some estimates extending to $2,500 (£1,853.05). Indian reports have floated figures around ₹1.9 lakh (£1,490.02), but no regional price has been confirmed.

The foldable may not reach shops at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly indicated that constrained early production could push pre-orders into the fourth quarter of 2026, even if Apple introduces the device in September.

New Colours Remain Disputed

Colour leaks are among the least settled details. Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital has claimed the iPhone 18 Pro models will come in Dark Cherry, Sky Blue and Black, replacing the current Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue and Silver finishes.

A competing leak from Sonny Dickson instead points to Dark Cherry, Sky Blue and Silver. The disagreement means neither Black nor Silver should yet be treated as confirmed.

Cosmic Orange is expected to disappear from the new Pro range, but Apple has not announced whether it will immediately discontinue the existing finish or how long retailers will continue selling remaining iPhone 17 Pro stock.

Apple's 9 September presentation should provide the first definitive answers on the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its long-rumoured foldable handset, including which reported specifications, colours, prices and release dates make the final cut.
