Arsenal have been contacted by Lyon over a possible loan deal for Gervinho, according to reports over the weekend, with the striker's future currently uncertain.

In 16 appearances for the Gunners this season, Gervinho managed to score just seven times, and only four in the league. While it is an improvement on his first season with the club, where he scored four times in total, but Wenger will surely be running out of patience with the 25 year old's lack of impact on the squad.

Gervinho
Gervinho is believed to be the subject of a possible loan deal with Lille.

Gervinho is certainly yet to justify his £10 million move to the club from Lille, with the Ivory Coast international's form taking a decline since his time in Ligue 1.

And Metro claims that Lyon are now considering bringing the hitman back to France, believing that while his form for Arsenal hasn't been great, back in Ligue 1 he will be able to find that spark that provided such a positive contribution for Lille.

Gervinho's arrival at Arsenal was one that brought so much promise, but now Wenger would be tempted at the idea of loaning him out to save at least some money on wages while he looks at other striker options for next season.

Steven Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain are both believed to be high on Wenger's wishlist for the summer, and will come at a high cost after both had successful seasons for Fiorentina and Real Madrid respectively.

The north London club face a tough fight with Juventus to land Jovetic, which Higuain is also believed to be considering multiple offers, and if either or both make the move to Arsenal it's hard to see where Gervinho would fit into the line up, with the star struggling even without the big name strikers at the Emirates.
