Ashley St. Clair claims Elon Musk revealed a different side of himself after their son, Romulus, was born in September 2024. Speaking in Alex Gibney's documentary Musk, she also alleges that she was offered a multimillion-dollar confidentiality agreement. Musk has publicly denied the alleged $40 million (€35.6 million and £30 million) offer.

The allegations feature in the documentary Musk, which expanded to cinemas across the United States on 16 October following its September premiere at the Venice Film Festival. St. Clair discusses her experiences with the Tesla chief executive, including disagreements over financial support and their son.

'It was almost as if he didn't show a certain side of himself until after I had our baby,' St. Clair said.

St. Clair said she initially found Musk 'kind', 'intelligent' and 'down to earth' after they connected through social media in 2023.

According to her account, Musk repeatedly encouraged her to consider having children with him.

'He was always saying, 'We should have a kid. You should have so many more kids. You should have 10 kids,'' she recalled. 'Eventually I was like, 'Well, what does that look like?''

St. Clair gave birth to Romulus in September 2024. He is among Musk's 14 publicly known children.

She alleged that shortly after his birth, she was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement presented as a child support arrangement. St. Clair claims the proposed agreement would have required her to keep their son's existence private.

She described financial terms involving an initial $15 million (€13.35 million and £11.25 million) payment and $100,000 (€89,000 and £75,000) a month for 20 years. The figures represent her account of the proposal, not independently confirmed payments.

The documentary includes a recording of Musk associate Jared Birchall discussing an NDA with St. Clair, according to the Associated Press. However, that recording does not independently establish every financial term St. Clair described.

St. Clair said she refused to sign the agreement in 'good conscience'. She publicly disclosed her son's existence on 14 February 2025.

She subsequently alleged that her monthly financial support fell to $40,000 before being halved again to $20,000 (€17,800 and £15,000). The documentary links those reductions to her decision to speak publicly, although that explanation remains disputed and independently unverified.

Musk rejected St. Clair's account after she described an alleged offer worth approximately $40 million at the Venice Film Festival.

'She was never offered that and has a history of making false claims,' Musk wrote on X on 9 September.

Elon Musk Disputes Claims as Ashley St. Clair Recalls His 'Strange' Behaviour

Beyond the financial allegations, St. Clair described personal moments that shaped her early impressions of Musk.

'He was respectful, but he was definitely strange. We were in this hotel and I'm falling asleep with him while he's listening to an audiobook or a podcast about Kublai Khan,' she recalled.

'I was just sitting there like, 'Really? Is this really what he's going to sleep to?''

St. Clair also recalled Musk describing himself as a 'good dad' and claiming he maintained 'amicable' relationships with former partners and the mothers of his children.

She further alleged that other women contacted her with accounts of Musk encouraging them to have children. Those claims have not been independently corroborated.

Musk has separately disputed how his relationship with St. Clair has been characterised. On 11 October, he wrote on X that she was not his girlfriend and claimed they had met only a few times. St. Clair challenged his account.

Their disagreements have also involved custody. St. Clair sought sole custody of Romulus in February 2025, while Musk announced plans in January 2026 to pursue full custody himself. His announcement does not establish that he completed a court filing.

Musk has criticised Gibney's documentary as a 'hit piece' and declined to participate in an interview for the film. The nearly four-hour production examines his business activities, political influence and personal relationships.

For St. Clair, the experience has raised questions about how much she understood of Musk's private life.

'It's very difficult to see the architecture that's Elon's world when you're dropped in,' she said. 'You see just enough that you think you're seeing the whole picture and you don't ask any other questions.'

The documentary places their competing accounts before a wider audience, but the dispute remains unresolved. Musk denies the alleged confidentiality offer and has challenged St. Clair's description of their relationship.
