Two decades after he first rose to fame, Bill Nye the Science Guy is back as the host of a new Netflix show which will air on 21 April 2017. In the series, called Bill Nye Saves the World, the famous American science educator and TV host will do what he does best – make some of today's most important scientific issues clear and accessible to a large audience.

The official synopsis released by Netflix says that each episode presented by Nye will "tackle a chosen topic from a scientific point of view, in an effort to dispel myths and refute anti-scientific claims that may be muddling the issue".

Some of the topics that will be discussed on the show have already been announced. Nye will take on the issues of climate change, vaccination, sex and alternative medicine – subjects that often trigger heated debates and are often portrayed with disregard for scientific facts.

Guests will be invited on the show and Nye will conduct experiments to let the facts lead each episode's exploration. He hopes this approach will help answer people's questions about science while refuting myths and anti-scientific claims.

Tyler, The Creator has recorded the theme tune for the programme. You can watch the trailer below.

Nye became famous in the US when he presented the award-winning PBS show "Bill Nye the Science Guy", from 1993 to 1998. Each episode from the five seasons was geared to getting children excited about science, explained scientific issues in a clear and entertaining way.

Since then, Nye has published a number of books, including his latest: "Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World." He is also currently the CEO of the Planetary Society, an organisation which sponsors projects looking to come up with innovative space technologies and advocates for humans' future in space.
