Chelsea v Wigan Athletic Head to Head
Chelsea v Wigan Athletic Head to Head IB Times UK

This is a match between two sides who are at opposite ends of the table. However, both teams will be keen on winning this one - for very different reasons. The last encounter between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw in December.

The match will be available live on vslive.tv in the UK and FOXSoccer.tv in the US.

Chelsea have been playing very well under interim manager Roberto Di Matteo, winning some important games - especially against Napoli and Benfica in the Champions League. After their last Champions League victory over Benfica, the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and in the Blues' camp is very good. The clubs has continued showing signs of recovery after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, by pulling off a pretty convincing 4-2 win against Aston Villa in their last league fixture.

However, Di Matteo knows that despite having a run of good results in the last few games, Chelsea cannot afford to relax as they are languishing in sixth in the league. If they lose any more games the Blues are at risk of not qualifying for next season's Champions League (unless they win this season's competition).

On the other hand, Wigan, despite winning two back-to-back league games against Stoke City and Liverpool are still bottom of the table in 19th. Now, with only seven games remaining, Wigan will have to win almost all of them, to avoid relegation. However, Wigan have been playing well of late, picking up 13 points in their last eight games, losing only once in the process.

Still the next match will be very difficult for Wigan because Chelsea have not lost a single Premier League game at Stamford Bridge since 2002. Also, out of the 19 encounters they have had with the Blues, Wigan have only managed to win three. Nonetheless, the Latics, who recently stunned Liverpool with a 2-1 win, will be trying their best to get a positive result in this game to ensure their survival.
