The picture that started it all: Cheryl was criticised for being too skinny Instagram

Internet trolls got more than they bargained for when they criticised Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's weight, commenting that she was too skinny.

The drama kicked off after the former Girls Aloud star posted a snap of herself all dressed up backstage at the X Factor auditions on Instagram. She sported a block coloured fitted dress and her hair was tied in a pony.

While some followers complimented her polished look, others insisted she was 'underweight'.

The pop star's new husband Jean Bernard leapt to her defence and quickly put fans, who spent 'too much time hating', in their place.

"She is the most beautiful woman on the planet and she wants to share it. #sharingiscaring No seriously she is. Do you follow me?", he hit back.

"And I can tell you something else she really care about her fans and is touched by all your support. Now for the hater please continue talking #wasteofenergy. I wish I had that much time hating and waste energy. Must mean you have."

The singer got married to the Frenchman on 7 July in an intimate Caribbean ceremony attended by just four witnesses.

After announcing her surprise nuptials, she officially changed her name to Mrs Fernandez-Versini signifying a clean break with former husband, footballer Ashley Cole.

And it looks like his chivalrous demeanour has already put him in the good graces of her fans.

"@jbfernandezversini the haters are not worth it! She's the best woman ever and I love her so much! Thank you for making her so happy," one supporter said.
