Manchester United are preparing a £25m bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, according to the Metro.

David Moyes has been handed substantial funds for January and the former Everton manager is looking to make the best use of his resources, having failed to do so last summer where he had to make do with Marouane Fellaini for a staggering fee of £27m.

United also missed out on signing former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who warded off a move out of Nou Camp and left Moyes struggling for options. The Red Devils were also interested in Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, but failed to agree a fee with the Spanish giants.

Koke has been in brilliant form for Atletico this season, who are currently second in the table, level on points with leaders Barcelona but trailing on goal difference. They are also five points clear of rivals Madrid and are a good bet for the la Liga title should they be able to keep hold of their best players.

However, his arrival will greatly boost United, whose midfield has failed to cope at times this season and will provide that attacking impetus from the deep which has been missing. The midfielder has scored three goals and assisted eight and is up there with the best midfielders in Spain on current form.

The Spaniard is rated at £30m but the report states that Atletico will be willing to let him go for less than that. However, with the La Liga club currently in great form, it will be very hard to prise Koke away from their grasps, which can potentially dent their title hopes. The player is well aware of the situation and has been reported that he does not want to leave halfway through the season.

United have managed to get back some form and are currently sixth in the table, level on points with Tottenham but ahead on goal difference. Their challenge for the title is still separated by eight points with Arsenal winning their game against Newcastle.
