England has begun well against a desperate Wales in their Euro cup qualifier at Wembley.

England began by dominating possession with Rooney being the first to threaten the Welsh defence.

John Terry also made his presence felt heading an Ashley Young corner kick just wide of goal.

Wales however made its own attempts with Ashley Williams heading wide a Gareth Bale free kick.

Wales' Jack Collison also attempted to smash through the England defence, only to be stopped in his tracks by Terry. Steve Morison also made an attempt at the English goal, but like all other attempts went wide of the mark.

With the Welsh dragon proving it had some snap and fire England started to fight back, with Young crossing a good ball over to Stewart Downing, who made an interesting but ultimately failed attempt to score.

The roles were minutes later reversed however when Downing sent the ball to young who smashed the ball into the Welsh net. 1-0 to England.

Almost immediately afterwards Rooney got a chance to score from a mere six yards away, only to let the chance go.

At half time England lead, but the game is far from over.
