Defending champion Sebastian Vettel will start the final practice and the qualifying session as firm favourite for pole position on the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Saturday. The Red Bull driver, who leads the drivers' table by 53 points, dominated the field during second practice in Singapore on Friday afternoon, posting 1:44.249 to finish 0.604s ahead of team-mate Mark Webber.

Friday Practice Review

Red Bull and Mercedes finished in the top four spots in both practice sessions on Friday. Lewis Hamilton impressed in the opening session, running 1:47.055, to top the timings, while Vettel (1:47.420) and Webber (1:47.885) occupied second and third spots. Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg (1:48.239) came fourth, with Lotus duo Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean behind him. Fernando Alonso, who is currently second in the drivers' table, finished a disappointing seventh, posting 1:48.362.

Championship leader Vettel restored the status quo in the afternoon session, topping the charts with his time of 1:44.249. Webber clocked 1:44.853 and behind him was Rosberg, running 1:45.258. First session topper Hamilton dropped to fourth, with a time of 1:45.368, while Grosjean and Alonso slightly improved their positions by finishing fifth and sixth. McLaren's Jenson Button, who was 14th in the first practice, had a relatively impressive second session and was seventh with 1:47.754. Meanwhile, Raikkonen dropped three places to eighth.

The forecast for qualifying is mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be around 27C with a 20 percent chance of rain. The conditions for Sunday's race are expected to be similar.
