Taxis around Paris staged a one-day protest on Monday (December 15) against the chauffered-car system Uber, worried the app is a serious threat to their livelihoods.

Around 60 taxis started off from Orly airport in the south of Paris and drove at a slow pace on a motorway leading to the French capital.

But France announced it will ban UberPOP, Uber's lowest-cost service, a ministry spokesman said early on Monday. UberPOP will be forbidden from January 1st. This decision is the latest regulatory hurdle for Uber, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
