A private funeral will be held this afternoon for the Bee Gees star Robin Gibb who died two and a half weeks ago, at the age of 62, after battling a long illness.

Remembered by people the world over as a pivotal member of the super group, the Bee Gees – along with his brothers Barry & Maurice, Robin co-wrote Night Fever – one of their many smash hits of the disco era. The tune became the anthem for cult movie Saturday Night Fever, starring a youthful John Travolta.

The 1960s and 1970s saw the band have a string of hits like Staying Alive and How Deep is Your Love. Robin made music right through to the present day, even collaborating with a Russian starlet on her debut album.

Although there'll be no access to the service for TV cameras, fans will be able to see Robin Gibb's funeral cortege drive through his former home of Thame in Oxfordshire this afternoon before the private service at St Mary's Church.
