Kim Kardashian's Lawyer Dream Is at Risk as Ray J's Accusations Could Haunt Her California State Bar Application
Ray J's racketeering claims pose a threat to Kim Kardashian's legal career ambitions.

Kim Kardashian is worried her ongoing legal fight with ex-boyfriend Ray J could ruin her chances of becoming a lawyer. New court documents show Kardashian is afraid his public accusations connecting her to criminal acts might lead to an investigation by the California State Bar.
The issue began in May 2025 when Ray J publicly hinted that the Kardashian family might be hit with serious federal charges.
Why Ray J's 'Racketeering' Claims Could Threaten Kim's Legal Career
In May of last year, Ray J publicly stated that 'racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be appropriate.' He further elaborated, noting, 'If you told me that the Kardashians were being charged for racketeering, I might believe it.'
Months later, he escalated the claims during a livestream broadcast. He told viewers, 'The federal RICO I'm about to drop on Kris and Kim is about to be crazy,' and asserted that 'the feds is coming.' He even compared the alleged situation to the legal troubles surrounding Sean 'Diddy' Combs, claiming it was 'worse than Diddy.'
In response to these statements, Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, filed a defamation lawsuit against Ray J. In her newly filed declaration, Kardashian explicitly denied the accusations. She stated, 'When [Ray J] made these allegations about me and my mother, he had absolutely no basis to make them.'
Kardashian, who is currently studying to pass the bar exam, emphasised the potential professional fallout from these public claims. She articulated her concern, stating, 'I feared that [Ray J's] accusations would put my dreams of becoming an attorney in jeopardy.'
The California State Bar's Strict Moral Character Evaluation
The core of Kardashian's anxiety lies in the stringent vetting process required to practice law in California. She detailed her understanding of the procedure, noting, 'It is my understanding that, before becoming an attorney, the California State Bar evaluates moral character through a comprehensive background investigation, including investigation allegations of criminal misconduct or dishonesty.'
She expressed apprehension about the potential consequences of Ray J's statements during this evaluation. 'I'm worried that I would need to address these entirely false accusations and that they might be taken seriously,' she explained in the legal filing.
Kardashian maintains a clean legal record. She stated in the documents that she has never been charged, indicted, or accused of committing any crime, including RICO violations. Furthermore, she clarified, 'I have never been contacted by a government authority or agency, or a civil litigant, in connection with any alleged or potential criminal activity.'

The Personal Toll and Ongoing Defamation Countersuits
The situation is causing Kardashian a lot of personal stress on top of the professional risks. She pointed out that she only dated Ray J for a brief time 20 years ago.
Still, his recent comments have made it necessary for her to talk about the situation with her family. 'I had to have tough conversations with my kids about the lies [Ray J] has repeatedly told about me and my family,' she told the court. She accused him of building a brand entirely focused on 'trying to tear me down.'
The legal proceedings between the two parties are complex and ongoing. After Kardashian and Jenner filed their first defamation lawsuit, Ray J hit back with a countersuit. He claimed the mother and daughter broke an earlier settlement deal when they talked about their famous sex tape on their Hulu reality show, The Kardashians. Both the defamation case and the countersuit remain active in the court system.
