A gang armed with golf clubs launched into a brutal attack on two men as they left a takeaway restaurant in Liverpool.

The assault, in Fazakerley on Thursday night (30 June), left one victim with facial injuries and the other with an arm injury. Both needed treatment in hospital.

Police say the gang involved was made up of 10 men aged between 17 and 20. The brawl, which happened at about 9pm, may have resulted from an earlier argument, according to officers.

The suspects fled on foot after the attack, fleeing from Longmoor Lane towards Sherwoods Lane.

Merseyside Police said CCTV enquiries are ongoing while forensic teams have been searching the crime scene. Longmoor Lane was closed in both directions during the aftermath but is now reopen.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Mahon, from Liverpool CID, said: "Although this investigation is in the early stages, it initially appears that this was an unprovoked attack by a large group of males around 17-20 years old, and we are determined to identify those responsible.

"This would have been a shocking attack to witness, so I would urge anyone with information to contact police, whether you saw the argument, the assault, or saw a group of men running off towards Sherwoods Lane around 9pm."

Anyone with information about this incident should call Liverpool CID on 0151 777 4065, call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
