Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes that the current crop is the best starting eleven he has ever played with in a Liverpool shirt.

The Reds are flying high, currently second in the league with 23 points, two behind Arsenal and are looking like a side ready to challenge for the top four this season. Their 4-0 win over Fulham have exorcised the ghosts that haunted them following their 2-0 loss to the Gunners at the Emirates. Liverpool have failed to secure a place in the top four for quite some time and Johnson believes that they are well on their way to achieve that this season.

Johnson joined Liverpool in 2009 and has been an integral part of their back four since then. He has played under four different managers, none of whom have had the same impact as Brendan Rodgers in his reign. Though he acknowledges the fact that they are not the best team ever to play for Liverpool, he believes that they have it in them to upset the top four, who have been underwhelming thus far.

"We've had some fantastic players in the past that have obviously moved on. But in terms of a squad and starting XI, I think it's the best since I've been around. Every good team bounces back after a disappointing result. To do that with a clean sheet and four goals is an ideal day.

"When we lose the ball, for the next few seconds we want to try to win it back as quickly as possible. A few of our goals came from that and I think we looked good today," he told Liverpool's Official Website.

"We've got to make this a difficult place for teams to come and play, and easier for us to play and get the points. If we keep working like that, and as we have done in the week, I'm sure we're going to give every team a good game," he added.
