Liverpool are monitoring the situation unfolding behind Real Madrid keeper Carlos Navas as they look for a replacement for Simon Mignolet in the summer, according to the Sunday People.

Brendan Rodgers has made signing a goalkeeper his priority for the summer, with Mignolet flattering to deceive this season. The former Swansea manager knows that he needs quality protection at the back to put any sort of a top four challenge together.

Mignolet was dropped from the squad after a plethora of goof-ups but an injury to Brad Jones earned him a spot back in the squad, where he has been a liability off late.

Meanwhile, Navas has started only in six games thus far for the Spanish club, with Carlo Ancelotti keeping faith in Iker Casillas for a major part of the season. However, with David de Gea set to come in, Navas' first team chances will take a major dive, especially with Casillas unlikely to leave the club in the summer.

Liverpool are currently the favourites for his signature and will have to shell out anything in the range of £10.5m to sign him this summer which would activate his release clause.

Rodgers has talked about strengthening his squad in the transfer window, which has been in a major shambles this season. The Reds have to invigorate their attack and defence and also find a quality replacement for the outgoing Steven Gerrard to progress next season.

James Milner has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, with the player available on a free transfer after rejecting an extension on his current deal with Manchester City. Manchester United have recently joined the race for the midfielder, with Louis van Gaal having earmarked the player as a potential holding midfielder to play alongside Ander Herrera.

Liverpool have finished the season in sixth spot and will play in the Europa League next season.
