Overview

Liverpool are in an impressive form since the turn of the year and have won all three league games so far. The Reds registered a 5-3 away win over Stoke City and the fixture saw Daniel Sturridge return from injury.

Brendan Rodgers's side opened the scoring from Ryan Shawcross' own goal, before double from Luis Suarez, followed by goals from Steven Gerrard and Sturridge saw Liverpool seal three points in a thrilling fixture.

Meanwhile, Villa come into this game after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park against the league leaders Arsenal. Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud were on the score sheet for the Gunners, while Christian Benteke managed to pull one for Paul Lambert's side in the second half.

Despite the Belgium international's strike later in the game, it was not sufficient for Villa to avoid defeat. After the defeat, they sit 11 in the table with 23 points while Liverpool are fourth with 42 points after 21 games.

What Managers Say

Brendan Rodgers: "Paul Lambert is an outstanding manager and has had a big job to do at Aston Villa. They're a team that will always fight. I think it's the type of team Aston Villa are. They play a lot of the time on the counter-attack; they've got great pace and they break forward very quickly."

Paul Lambert: "They've got a chance there's no two ways about it. Brendan – who I get on really well with – we've had some really good battles when Brendan was at Swansea, when Norwich got promoted to the Championship we had some really good games there."
