Liverpool will take on Carlisle United in the third round of the Capital One Cup tie at Anfield on 23 September, Wednesday.

Where to watch

Kick-off is set for 8pm BST. There is no live coverage of the match in the UK.

Overview

Liverpool could potentially face an early exit from the Capital One Cup, if they fail to improve their recent form. The Reds are without a win in the last five matches played in all competitions, which includes two defeats.

The pressure is on Brendan Rodgers after his side settled for a 1-1 draw against Norwich City at Anfield during the league tie. The worrying fact for the Merseyside club is their goal scoring record.

Liverpool have scored only five goals in all competitions this season. The former Swansea boss will be hoping to improve that when his side face the League Two side at home.

Meanwhile, Carlisle have lost only one of the last seven matches played in all competitions. In the last fixture, they settled for a 2-2 draw against York City away from home.

Keith Curle's side have eliminated Queens Park Rangers from the Capital One Cup after defeating them 2-1 in the second round at Loftus Road. They will be hoping for another upset when they face Liverpool.

What Managers Say

Brendan Rodgers: "You have to risk and you have to play positive football. I think [confidence] will grow with results. If you're winning games and your football's flowing then of course your confidence is going to be at a far higher level than what it might be now."

Keith Curle: "I'm lucky and have experienced Anfield as a player. The secret is to play the game, not the occasion. If you go there with any fear, you don't perform. The players will be relaxed before the game. We'll show them clips of Liverpool when they do things wrong. Mistakes do happen, they do concede goals. Can we score against Liverpool? Damn right we can."
