Bruno Fernandes Transfer News: Man Utd Open Talks After Galatasaray Make Huge Wage Offer

Manchester United have opened preliminary talks with captain Bruno Fernandes over a new contract as the midfielder enters the final year of his current deal, according to reports.

Fernandes, 31, has around 10 months remaining on an agreement reportedly worth £220,000 a week. United also have an option to extend it by another year but are understood to want a longer-term deal with their captain.

The talks come amid reported interest from Galatasaray, who are said to be preparing a four-year offer that could significantly increase Fernandes' wages. Reports have also claimed the package could include a £3.5 million signing-on fee, although Galatasaray have not publicly confirmed those terms.

United Open Talks With Fernandes

United's decision follows another strong campaign from Fernandes, who was named PFA Players' Player of the Year after setting a Premier League record with 21 assists during the 2025/26 season.

His importance to the club was underlined again at the weekend when he scored a hat-trick and provided an assist in a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town. The performance gave United their first Premier League win of the season under Michael Carrick.

Fernandes has been a central figure at Old Trafford since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020. United are now understood to want an agreement before the end of the year, although the extension option gives the club some protection over his immediate future.

Multiple outlets have reported that United would not consider offers for Fernandes despite interest from Galatasaray. Coverage also noted that a £57 million release clause for foreign clubs that had previously been included in his contract has also expired.

The latest developments follow renewed uncertainty over Fernandes' future after he was linked with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal last summer. United were reportedly offered £100 million for the midfielder, while the overall package proposed to Fernandes was worth considerably more.

Fernandes ultimately chose to remain at Old Trafford but later admitted he had been hurt by United's willingness to consider the Saudi offer.

Fernandes has continued to indicate that his priority is competing at the highest level with United.

Speaking recently about his future, he said his focus was on maintaining the physical and tactical standards needed to continue playing in the Premier League and for United. He described playing for the club and in England's top flight as playing with 'the best'.

Fernandes also acknowledged that he would need to recognise when he could no longer meet those demands, saying he would need to 'step aside' if he was no longer capable of doing the job.
