Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly set for a summer battle to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, reports the Express.

The German international has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with both the Red Devils and the Merseyside club looking to land the talented midfielder.

United and Liverpool's hopes have been further boosted in signing Reus in this ongoing transfer window.

Dortmund are set to lose their grip on keeping the 25-year-old at Signal Iduna Park. The Bundesliga outfit are looking to bring in a replacement for Reus.

Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on AS Roma's Adem Ljajic and is keen on signing the midfielder this summer.

The Serbian international is believed to be unhappy with the Italian side and wants to leave his current employers. This has alerted Dortmund, prompting them to make Ljajic their priority summer target.

The Daily Mail reports the player has rejected a chance to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park.

His contract at Dortmund runs out in 2017 and his decision to spurn a chance to sign a contract extension has alerted United and Liverpool.

Reus is believed to be available for £50m and both the English outfits, United and Liverpool are willing to make a bid to sign the German midfield star.

He picked up an injury before the start of the World Cup, which saw him being ruled out of the tournament where Germany were eventually crowned world champions.

The German midfielder is currently working on improving his fitness as he aims to make it back to the football field soon. Reus's agent has admitted there are several clubs interested in his client's services.

"Marco would improve any of Europe's top clubs so it is only natural that many of these clubs are making moves for him," Dirk Hebel told Bild.

"However, all he would like right now is to get completely fit again and return to action even stronger than before. Everything else is currently on the backburner."

If Dortmund seal a move for Ljajic, they could let Reus leave the club in the summer transfer window. Should United or Liverpool land the midfielder, the addition of the Bundesliga star is likely to bolster their squad for the new campaign.
