Manchester United have re-entered the race to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria after failing to lure Arturo Vidal to Old Trafford.

According to the Express, Louis van Gaal's disappointment at losing out on Vidal has 'galvanised' him and he is now fully focused on landing the Argentine star.

It is believed that United are preparing a £45m bid to bring Di Maria to the Premier League and that they have also offered to double his current £44,000-a-week salary.

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain were said to be in pole position to capture the Argentine's signature, with Laurent Blanc having hinted that negotiations were ongoing with the Spanish capital club.

But the French champions, who are under severe Financial Fair Play sanctions will struggle to pay Real the hefty fees for Di Maria after already spending £50m on signing David Luiz from Chelsea. They are currently offering a season-long loan deal and are willing to complete the permanent transfer the following summer.

However, it seems like the current European champions are looking to sell the player, so they can recoup some of the cash they spent in bringing James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos to the club.

This puts the Red Devils in poll position to sign the 26-year-old midfielder, as Van Gaal is a big admirer and United have the cash to match Real's valuation of the player.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has denied any deal has been completed for the Argentine midfielder, and expects him back for the pre-season after his post-World Cup holiday.

"There is nothing new in the market, Di Maria finished the World Cup and he is resting," Ancelotti said, as quoted in the Daily Mail.

"He will return on August 5 to start (training) together with his team mates," the Italian added.

Di Maria was impressive for Real during the previous campaign, and put in a man-of-the-match performance in the Spanish capital club's Champions League final victory over local rivals Atletico Madrid.
