Manchester United have suffered a blow in their chase for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, as he is set to sign for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Marca, the Argentine star has agreed a deal with the French champions and is set to sign a five-year contract worth £6.3m-a-year.

PSG have agreed to pay Real a fee in the region of £51m for Di Maria, making him the Spanish capital club's most expensive outgoing player. The record was previously held by Mesut Ozil, who moved to Arsenal last season for £42.5m.

The Argentine winger has been a priority target for the Red Devils, with Louis van Gaal very keen to bring the player to Old Trafford. If reports are to be believed, United had made a £40m bid to acquire the forward's services.

But it now looks like Di Maria has chosen the French capital ahead of Manchester, and United's failure to qualify for the Champions League could also have been a factor in the former Benfica player choosing the Ligue 1 club over the Premier League side.

The 26-year-old winger had an impressive 2013-14 campaign with Real and helped them win their tenth European Cup. He was one of the key members of Carlo Ancelotti's side, scoring four goals and providing a staggering 17 assists in the 34 league games he played last season.

Moreover, with the arrival of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez from Bayern Munich and AS Monaco respectively, Di Maria's chances of getting regular game time have further diminished. Further, Real will also want to balance their books after spending heavily on their two new signings.

However, PSG boss Laurent Blanc has not denied his club's interest in the player, but has confirmed that no deal has been completed for the player.

"I'll leave you to speculate. At the moment nothing is done," Blanc said, as quoted in the Daily Mail.

"Are there negotiations? It's not for me to say, but for the board of the club," the Frenchman added.
