Cesc Fabregas
Cesc Fabregas would be welcomed at Manchester United, David De Gea says.

David De Gea would welcome the signing of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas at Manchester United.

United put in a £26m bid for Fabregas last week but Barca boss Tito Vilanova has since denied that the former Arsenal captain will leave the club following a campaign during which he was often played out of position.

De Gea has belatedly joined up with the United first team for their pre-season after being given an extended break due to the Under-21 European Championship, and admits he would relish seeing his fellow-countryman join him at Old Trafford.

"It would be great if Cesc came here," he said, according to ESPN.

"It would be great to have more Spanish players at Manchester United. He is a great player, very skilful, knows how to win things and you always want those type of players in your team."

United are on the lookout for a midfielder this summer, with Moyes keen to fill a gap which has grown larger as a result of Paul Scholes' retirement.

The club reportedly missed out on landing Thiago Alcantara who chose a move to Bayern Munich instead and with Vilanova having stated that Fabregas to remain at the Nou Camp, Moyes' search for additional midfield resources looks set to continue.

The Premier League champions are also believed to be pursuing Marouane Fellaini and Moyes is hoping that his established relationship with the player will result in the midfielder picking United over Arsenal, who are also believed to be seriously interested in his signature.
