Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic believes Cesc Fabregas will bolster their chances of lifting silverware in the upcoming campaign.

The Blues reportedly splashed £27m to sign the former Arsenal star from Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

The 27-year-old is one of the five arrivals at Stamford Bridge this summer as Jose Mourinho aims to win his third Premier League title with Chelsea.

The west London club are one of the favourites to challenge for the league title next season and Matic insists that a player of Fabregas's quality is capable of driving the club towards success in all competitions.

"Cesc is a great player. He has played for Arsenal and Barcelona - so he has experience of the big clubs. He has big quality with the ball and he is a great player who will help us a lot. A player like that can win everything," Matic explained.

The Serbian international, who like Mourinho is in his second spell at Chelsea, also stated that they will make serious efforts to prevent the mistakes that dented their chances of winning trophies last campaign.

"So much is now different to my first time at Chelsea. The way we play has changed. This Chelsea is a much younger team but we still know we can do a lot and we improve every day with the manager. This team has a good future," the 26-year-old added.

"I am very confident for the new season. Chelsea are in good shape and we want to win the title. Last season was very difficult for us. In some, if I can say some 'small' games, we lost points a home. That decided our season."

"This year we will try not to make the same mistakes. We know what we have to do and we are prepared for everything. There are five or six teams that will fight for the title and it's going to be hard. But we are strong and we will fight until the end," the former Benfica star concluded.
