Preview: The Premier League's surprise package this season Newcastle United will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they play host to an Everton side that is languishing in 16th place, following a typically frugal summer in the transfer market.

Alan Pardew's side are currently in their best run of form in the top flight having gone 13 matches without suffering a league defeat. They have won five and drawn four of their nine games at St James' Park this season, but interestingly Everton were the last side to beat them in the North East.

Newcastle's excellent start to the campaign engineered by Pardew has seen the former West Ham United manager's name linked as a possible successor to Fabio Capello, yet he maintains it is not a role that interests him and suggests there are far more suitable candidates out there.

"It's nice to hear your name mentioned with things like that, but in terms of the England job, it's not for me at this time," Pardew told Sky Sports News.

"I'm just not interested in it. I don't think I have the experience to do that job.

"There's someone in hospital at the moment (Harry Redknapp) who could definitely do the job though.

"I think he's at the right age and he's had the right experience in his career.

"When it comes to the England job, I think the most important thing about the position is that the general public need to buy in to whoever the manager is.

"I think they would willingly buy in to Harry Redknapp, and I think that's very important. He would definitely be my choice."

The Magpies will be without Gabriel Obertan after the young Frenchman suffered a toe infection, while Shola Ameobi is still receiving treatment for a hamstring injury. Check Tiote is rated doubtful for the game with a knee problem, although Pardew is expected to make a late decision on the hugely impressive defensive midfielder.

David Moyes' squad have toiled under the lack of investment in the playing staff this season and have taken just three points from their last five games. The Toffees are without a clean sheet in seven league games but are hoping to welcome back a number of their missing stars.

Tim Cahill, Phil Neville, and Slyvain Distin are all nearing full fitness following spells on the sidelines and Moyes remains hopeful all of them will return in some capacity for Saturday.

Royston Drenthe comes back into contention after serving a one-match ban for his dismissal against Chelsea in the Carling Cup, and his manager has backed the former Real Madrid winger to bounce back from the disappointment.

"He (Drenthe) is a great lad about the place and we really enjoy having him here," Moyes told Everton's official website. "He has a bit more to do on the pitch for us - that is where we really want him to be noticeable.

"He has had short and small impacts and hopefully that will continue to improve and he will grow longer in the games than what he is doing at present."
