Newcastle United take on Liverpool during a weekend Premier League clash St James Park on Sunday, 6 December.

Where to watch live

Kick-off is at 4pm GMT. Live coverage is on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD. Catch the highlights of the game on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One and BBC One HD at 10:30pm GMT.

Overview

Newcastle are not enjoying a great run in the Premier League and should their form continue for the remaining period of the season, they could face the danger of relegation. In the last five matches, they managed only one win and scored twice in the process.

Steve McClaren will be looking for a victory when his side take on the Reds over the weekend. A victory for the Magpies will give them a mental boost for the busy fixtures in December and also could help them climb up the table.

Liverpool enter the fixture after a 6-1 thumping victory over Southampton in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup. Daniel Sturridge impressed Jurgen Klopp as the England international scored a brace, followed by a hat-trick from Divok Origi.

The Merseyside club will face Stoke City in the semi-final of the competition. They have lost only one match in all competitions since the former Borussia Dortmund boss took over the reins at Anfield and Liverpool will be hoping that run can extend when they face Newcastle on Sunday.

What managers say

Steve McClaren: "We've conceded 30 goals in 14 games and that's not good enough. We've had two clean sheets this season and we're working on trying to keep more because, otherwise, we're always going to be in trouble."

Jurgen Klopp: "I'm still a new manager here. I can't tell you much about Newcastle. I know a bit of their problems in the last year. They thought they needed to buy players and so on, Newcastle haven't played in Europe for a while, so information in Germany was not easy to get."
