Newcastle host Tottenham at St James' Park on 19 April as the Magpies look for their first win after losing five on the trot in the league.

Where to Watch Live

Kick-off is set for 4pm BST. Live coverage of the game will be on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.

Overview

Newcastle are going through a bizarre run of form and had it not been for their performance in the first half of the season, they would surely be involved in a relegation scrap with the rest of the teams in the bottom of the league.

Their 2-0 loss to Liverpool came under further punishment as their captain Moussa Sissoko was sent off for dangerous conduct. Sissoko, their best player this season by far, will miss the next three games, making it even harder for John Carver to initiate a winning run.

Their 1-0 loss to Sunderland, owing to a brilliant goal from Jermain Defoe, was their worst result thus far in the campaign which antagonised the fans and put them against Carver, who is trying his best to make the managerial position his own this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have all but given up hope to finish in the top four this season with their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at White Hart Lane last weekend. Christian Benteke's winner turned out to be the decider between the two sides, as Villa gained three crucial points in their quest to stay up this season.

All eyes will however be on Harry Kane, who has scored 29 goals thus far in the campaign in all competitions and will be gunning for his 30th in spite of the player looking visibly jaded after an exhausting debut season with the north London club.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has little choice up front with Roberto Soldado out of form and Emmanuel Adebayor not in contention. Adebayor has urged the PFA to vote for Kane as the Player of the Year given his performance and so that he can be an inspiration for young players watching him on screen.

What Managers Say

John Carver: "[Kane's] been outstanding and I think he's earned the right to get into the England team. It's great to see a young British talent do so well but we've got a more settled back four now. Daryl Janmaat will go to right-back, with [Mike] Williamson and Coloccini [at centre-half]. Hopefully, they can stem his flow."

Mauricio Pochettino: "We all understand that when you put your face in front on the touchline, when you are a head coach or a manager you are responsible. If you want to keep your place you stay behind. The manager has to be brave because it is not an easy job. When the good things happen sometimes it is good to hear people say: 'Good man, good job.' When the problems arrive it is difficult to be in a good mood like me. But it is important to be brave."
