Overview

Novak Djokovic will play his first clay court match of the year as he takes on Jiri Vesely in the Monte Carlo Masters 2016 on 13 April. The defending champion has had a brilliant 2016 so far winning four titles.

The Serbian won a record-breaking 28th title at Masters 1000 events recently when he picked up the Indian Wells title for the third consecutive year. In fact, he has won all the tournaments he has played in this year barring the Dubai Open where he had to retire due to an eye infection.

Right now, the way Djokovic is playing, it is unlikely for us to predict anything other than a win for the world number one.

The world number 55, Jiri Vesely, comes into this game after beating Teymuraz Gabashvili 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the first round. The Czech lost the first set before getting into top gear to beat his opponent. Vesely has had a mixed year so far reaching the semi-finals of the Morrocco Open while failing to live up to his potential in other ATP tournaments. Though a shock win over the current world number one looks unlikely, he is capable of giving the best a run for their money on his day.
