'I Killed My Daughter': New York Mother Calls 911 as Girl, 5, Dies After Being Found Bleeding From Nose and Mouth
Francis Cabello faces a murder charge after daughter Fabiana, 5, died in Queens following a reported 911 confession

New York mother Francis Cabello was charged with murder on Thursday night after her five-year-old daughter died in Queens. Fabiana had been found bleeding from her nose and mouth at home.
Law enforcement sources told the broadcaster that the mother called 911 on Wednesday evening and admitted killing her daughter. Officers discovered Fabiana unresponsive in a bedroom at the house on 110th Street before she was taken to Jamaica Hospital.
New York Mother's Reported 911 Call
Police placed the discovery just before 7pm, following the emergency call. The mother reportedly told the operator, 'I killed my daughter.'
Officers arriving at the property encountered her downstairs. She told the officers, 'she's upstairs, not breathing.'
Surveillance footage described in the later report captured officers running from the house carrying Fabiana and placing her in a police car. An officer could be seen holding someone on the pavement. The report did not identify that person.
Fabiana died at Jamaica Hospital just before 7:30pm, police stated in the earlier report. Officials were investigating her death as a homicide.
Relatives Describe Concerns About New York Mother
Fabiana's grandfather, Franklin Cabello, told NBC New York that he had been in his room when police suddenly arrived at the Richmond Hill house. He described being inside the property but unable to explain what had happened behind the bedroom door.
'She was inside the bedroom, she closed the door, we [didn't] see anything,' he told the broadcaster.
Cabello described his family as destroyed by his granddaughter's death. He also recalled concerns about his daughter's recent behaviour, explaining that she had been acting strangely and that he believed she had ceased taking her medication.
He recounted that his daughter had told him a doctor authorised her to discontinue it, an explanation he did not believe. The report did not include confirmation from a treating doctor about her medication or any instruction to discontinue it.
The grandfather told the broadcaster that his daughter had spent a month in hospital and had been home for about two months. He left the question of what would happen next to police and the justice system.
A neighbour interviewed by the broadcaster also described growing concern. He had not recently seen the mother leaving the house or taking Fabiana to the park or school.
Murder Charge Against New York Mother as Family Mourns
Neighbours expressed shock at the death of the five-year-old, remembering a child who had greeted them affectionately. 'She used to hug me so tight,' one emotional neighbour told the broadcaster.
Fabiana's uncle described the happiness she brought to his parents, recalling her hugs and cheerful character.
'She's a very beautiful girl, you know. She's joyful she keep my mom and dad happy. She give you a nice hug, you know. She was very happy happy girl,' he told the broadcaster.
Police remained outside the home on Thursday evening while detectives worked to establish what had happened. Officers were also speaking to other family members as the investigation continued.
Francis Cabello had been undergoing a psychiatric evaluation earlier on Thursday, before the murder charge that night. The earlier report described her as being in her early 30s.
The medical examiner's office was investigating the cause of Fabiana's death.
