Root Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 on Official Android 4.1.2 XXCMA1 Jelly Bean Firmware

Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 users recently received the latest official Jelly Bean update via Android 4.1.2 XXCMA1 firmware. Follow this step-by-step guide for rooting the tablet on the new XXCMA1 official firmware using CF-Auto-Root method. The CF-Auto-Root makes use of ODIN tool for flashing the root software.

NOTE: Rooting the device is essential to gain root access for installing third-party custom ROMs, system tweaks and root-based apps. However, rooting the device will void its warranty. In order to reclaim the warranty status, just reinstall any official firmware update.

Key Points to Note

  • The official XXCMA1 firmware and the instructions given in this guide are applicable for the Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 model only and will not work on any other model. Verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Tablet.
  • Backup important data and settings on the tablet and ensure the device has at least 80 percent battery charge.
  • Verify that correct USB drivers are installed for Galaxy Note on the computer. Download Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 USB drivers.
  • Make sure that USB Debugging mode is enabled on the tablet. To do so, navigate to Settings > Applications > Development and select the checkbox for USB debugging option.
  • Rooting the device will increase its binary flash counter and hence void its hardware warranty. As this rooting method uses Odin for flashing, it does not install custom recovery tools such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP recovery. Such recovery tools need to be installed separately after rooting, before trying to install custom ROMs on the device.
  • The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not cover any warranty claims involving either hardware or software damage to the device. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk.

How to Root Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 on Official Android 4.1.2 XXCMA1 Jelly Bean Firmware

1. Extract CF-Auto-Root-p4noterf-p4noterfxx-gtn8000.zip file to get a file with .tar extension under extracted folder on desktop.

2. Extract Odin zip file to a desired location (preferably desktop) on the computer to receive Odin3 v3.07.exe, along with few other files.

3. Turn off the tablet and wait for vibration (about 5-6 seconds) to confirm complete device shutdown.

4. Now, place Galaxy Note N8000 tablet in Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down and Home buttons, while simultaneously tapping the Power button. A "Warning!" message will pop-up on screen; hit Volume Down key to progress into Download Mode.

5. Launch Odin3 v3.07.exe (locate file in Step 2) as an Administrator, as Admin privileges are required to complete the flashing process.

6. Now, connect Galaxy Note N8000 to the computer with original USB cable. A message reading "Added!!" appears in Odin's message box at the bottom left. If the message fails to appear, then try another USB port (preferably the one at the back of the computer). If this fails, reinstall the USB drivers for the tablet on computer. When the successful "Added!!" message comes up in Odin, proceed to the next step. At this point, the COM port with a number turns Yellow if the device is successfully added.

7. Select the following files in Odin using respective command buttons:

  • Tap the PDA Button, and choose the CF-Auto-Root-p4noterf-p4noterfxx-gtn8000.tar.md5 file.

8. In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options by selecting their checkboxes.

9. Make sure that everything under step 7 and step 8 are done correctly. After confirming, hit the START button to begin the flashing process.

10. Once the CF-Auto-Root package is completely flashed, the tablet will reboot automatically and a PASS message with green background appears in the left-most box at the very top of Odin. At this point, disconnect the device's USB cable from computer and boot up the tablet in normal mode.

Galaxy Note N8000 is now rooted on Android 4.1.2 XXCMA1 Jelly Bean firmware. Third-party apps that require root permission can now be installed.

NOTE: To verify if the device is actually rooted or not, download and install the Root Checker app from Google Play Store for free.
