Netizens Debate Whether Leaked GTA 6 Collector's Edition Boxes Are Real or Fake Merchandise Kits

Images from a Mexican packaging facility have circulated online, but Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed the leak

Fans are debating whether leaked images showing an alleged GTA 6 Collector's Edition box are genuine, after photographs of an oversized package bearing Vice City branding began circulating on social media before the original post was deleted.

The box was allegedly photographed at a Mexican packaging facility, fuelling speculation that Rockstar Games may be preparing an unannounced collector's product.

The speculation comes despite Rockstar confirming that the physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI will contain a download code rather than a disc.

Rockstar Games opened pre-orders for GTA VI on 25 June 2026, with both digital and physical versions available. The physical version is a code-in-box release, with no disc included. Rockstar says the physical version will be available from 12 November to support pre-loading.

The Alleged GTA 6 Collector's Edition Photos, Explained

The images first appeared on X before the original post was deleted, with copies later circulating elsewhere online. They show a large, square black box printed with the GTA VI logo and Vice City-related branding.

The person who posted the images claimed to have worked in packaging production at a Mexican company identified as Unique Services for about a month. According to the poster, the box was larger than standard PlayStation 5 game packaging and contained several sections. Reports have attributed the images to an X user who identified himself as a former packaging worker.

The poster also claimed to have seen a circular section inside the box where a disc could fit. If the description is accurate, its purpose is unclear and does not establish that the box was designed to contain a game disc. Rockstar has officially stated that the physical version of GTA VI will not include a disc.

The poster further claimed that the alleged editions were being distributed internationally and that production would end in November. Those claims have not been independently verified.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not publicly confirmed the alleged Collector's Edition or the authenticity of the images.

Why the Debate Continues

The images have nevertheless prompted scepticism. Unofficial mock-ups of game packaging can circulate online before major releases, making it difficult to establish the authenticity of images without corroboration.

Some observers have also suggested that the box's unusually large dimensions could be more consistent with a promotional or press kit than a standard retail product. Rockstar has previously produced press and media materials for its games, although the available evidence does not establish that the leaked box is a promotional package.

Rockstar recently hosted hands-off GTA VI preview sessions for selected media, although there is no verified evidence that the alleged boxes were distributed at those events.

If the leak proves genuine and eventually leads to a consumer product, it could renew concerns among collectors about the value of a premium physical package that contains only a download code. Rockstar's currently announced GTA VI editions are the Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition, while the company has not announced a Collector's Edition. Rockstar's official information confirms that the Ultimate Edition is digital-only, while the physical release is the Standard Edition in a code-in-box format.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-loading begins on 12 November, and Rockstar says the physical code-in-box version is expected to be available from that date. Whether a Collector's Edition box exists beyond the alleged leak remains unconfirmed.
