Steven Greer Says Ancient UFO Sphere May Be Detecting Something Dangerous Happening to Earth
Greer links the Buga Sphere to possible planetary dangers, but its age, origin and capabilities remain unverified

UFO researcher Steven Greer has suggested that a mysterious metallic sphere reportedly recovered in Colombia could be an ancient warning device detecting potentially dangerous changes affecting Earth.
Speaking on Planet Tyrus, Greer discussed the so-called Buga Sphere and proposed that unusual activity associated with similar objects might signal geophysical instability.
His explanation remains a hypothesis, with no independently verified evidence establishing that the sphere is extraterrestrial, ancient technology, or capable of monitoring the planet.
An Ancient Warning System?
The object takes its name from Buga, a city in Colombia where it was reportedly recovered in 2025. Greer said he had examined the sphere and linked its appearance to reports of other spherical objects in the region.
He outlined his theory that the objects were responding to changes in Earth's environment rather than arriving randomly.
Greer pointed to magnetic-field changes affecting parts of South America, suggesting that the changes might have activated previously dormant spheres. In his theory, their activity could warn of a future event capable of disrupting conditions on Earth.
That connection has not been demonstrated. Magnetic-field variations are real subjects of scientific research, but their existence does not establish that an unidentified object is detecting them or that a catastrophe is approaching.
The 12,500-Year Claim
Greer also claimed that material associated with the sphere had been dated to roughly 12,500 years ago, placing it thousands of years before the construction of Egypt's Great Pyramids.
He connected that proposed age with an ancient period of environmental upheaval, raising the possibility that the object was created to identify similar dangers in the future.
However, a claimed date for organic material associated with an object cannot, by itself, establish when a metallic sphere was manufactured. The age, origin, and history of the Buga Sphere have not been independently established through publicly verifiable evidence.
During the conversation, Greer further claimed that the sphere initially weighed about four pounds before later reaching approximately 22 pounds. He attributed the reported difference to unconventional electromagnetic effects.
Those measurements and the proposed explanation have not been independently confirmed. No publicly demonstrated mechanism shows that the object can manipulate gravity.
What Do Its Markings Mean?
Greer also discussed symbols visible on the sphere, describing them as resembling an ancient form of Sanskrit. He suggested their interpretation might contain a warning about an astronomical or environmental threat.
The proposed translation remains unverified, and the markings have not been established as a genuine ancient language. Their presence alone cannot demonstrate an extraterrestrial origin or a message about Earth's future.
Greer said he wanted the object studied and potentially reverse-engineered for public benefit, arguing that further examination could help explain its reported properties.
His account includes the suggestion that the sphere is responding to a developing planetary danger. Without independently reproducible testing, it remains an unverified interpretation of an object whose origin is still uncertain.
The distinction matters because a proposed warning system is not evidence that Earth faces an imminent disaster. Greer's interview raises questions about the sphere, but provides no independently confirmed prediction of one.
