The kick-off is set for 7:45pm GMT. Live coverage is available on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.

Overview

The Black Cats come into this fixture after their goalless draw against West Ham United in the last league fixture. In their last home game, Sunderland lost to Tottenham Hotspur before despite taking a lead from Adam Johnson's first half goal.

In the Capital One Cup, Sunderland sealed a place in the quarter final after registering a 2-1 win over Premier League side Southampton in November. Phil Bardsley and Seb Larsson's goals were sufficient for the Black Cats to make it to the last eight of the competition.

Gus Poyet would be looking for a win against the Europa League winners on Tuesday evening in front of the home crowd.

Meanwhile, Chelsea enter this midweek tie after their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the league fixture at Stamford Bridge. Fernando Torres opened the scoring just after the first quarter before the former Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh equalised for the visitors.

However, Ramires' goal gave Jose Mourinho's side the much needed win and prioved to be the difference between Chelsea and Palace at the end. In the last Capital One Cup tie, Chelsea registered a 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

What Managers Say

Gus Poyet: "If we want to get out of the relegation zone, then we have to win matches, become winners. We want to win the cup game for that reason. Let's hope we can beat Chelsea, then we will be very confident for Norwich."

Jose Mourinho: "You see the teams that are there. We go to Sunderland, which is obviously very, very difficult, but on top of that you have Tottenham and West Ham, and Man United, Man City. It will be a difficult one."
