Candace Owens has released leaked audio she claims was recorded inside Turning Point USA, reigniting backlash over how senior figures discussed Charlie Kirk's memorial just days after his death.

In the recording, Erika Frantzve Kirk, Charlie Kirk's widow, is heard speaking enthusiastically about attendance numbers, voter registrations, and merchandise sales linked to the event.

The tone of the remarks, delivered less than two weeks after Kirk's death, was blasted online, with opponents accusing the organisation of commercialising a moment of mourning. Supporters, however, argue the comments only show Erika's gratitude and organisational pride rather than disrespect to Charlie.

What The Leaked Audio Reveals

The audio was leaked by Owens, who framed the clip as evidence of an inappropriate focus on performance metrics during a period of grief.

Erika opens by praising the memorial's scale, calling it an 'event of a century'. She highlights that more than 275,000 people attended in person, with stadium overflow adding to what she described as an unprecedented turnout.

Her emphasis suggests a sense of astonishment at how quickly the event came together following her husband's death.

One of the most controversial moments comes when Kirk refers to the audience reaching beyond the venue. She mentions a figure of '100 million', which might be about the number of people reached by the broadcast. While she does not clearly define the metric, critics have seized on the comment as evidence of a marketing-style approach during a memorial.

The audio also includes a brief reference to merchandise revenue. Kirk says sales were at 'over £160,000 ($200,000)', before cautioning listeners not to quote her because the figure was still rising.

'We had thousands that were registered to vote. I think we're at like over 200,000 for merch sales. Don't quote on me that because I think it just keeps bumping up like crazy. But I just wanted to say a huge, huge, huge thank you to the events team. The development team, the graphic design team, the production team. Just phenomenal'.

Erika's remark has fuelled claims that the memorial served as a fundraising or branding exercise, even though the recording does not provide a breakdown of how the proceeds would be used.

Supporters Say Erika Was Just 'Grateful'

Beyond numbers, much of the audio focuses on thanking Turning Point USA staff. Kirk describes teams working 20-hour days for a week, some without sleep, while the organisation was grieving her husband's death.

She calls the teams 'breathing angels' and emphasises that many were operating under emotional strain.

'A lot of this staff that worked on the memorial, they had 20-hour days for a week during the time of us grieving the loss of my husband, and honestly, I know several staff who didn't even sleep. Again, you guys are breathing angels. And I'm so grateful for all of you'.

The latter part of the recording takes a more personal turn. Kirk urges staff to set aside past conflicts, stressing how her husband's death has put life into perspective.

'My husband's dead. Like I'm not trying to be morbid, but he's dead. And it puts life into perspective how short life is. And relationship. And God puts people in your life for a reason and it teaches you a lesson, it teaches them a lesson'.

Why Owens Leaked the Audio

The audio serves Owens' narrative accusing Erika and Turning Point USA (TPUSA) of mishandling the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination and covering up uncomfortable truths on 'suspicious' events before he died.

Owens has suggested TPUSA insiders knew Charlie feared for his life before he died, including unverified claims that he sent warnings to colleagues, and criticised the organisation for what she perceives as silence or withholding information. She has also questioned Erika's quick rise to TPUSA CEO, arguing that leadership should have transitioned more thoughtfully amid grief rather than immediately placing her in charge.

Beyond internal leadership critiques, Owens has floated conspiracy theories about motives and external influences around Charlie Kirk's assassination, including alleged pressures from donors and foreign actors, like Israel.

Erika already pushed back against Owens' theories with one word, 'Stop'.
