Tottenham may have come out of transfer deadline day as winners, beating Liverpool to the signing of Clint Dempsey just before midnight on 31 August, but they weren't able to transfer that form onto the pitch the following day.

The north London club were able to bring in three players in the dying stages of deadline day, but a lacklustre draw against Norwich left fans wanting more as the side failed to impress.

Andre Villas-Boas has been criticised since for his tactics, and with Tottenham having claimed just two points from their first three games, the club will be hoping that their signings can settle in quickly as their campaign hits full throttle.

Meanwhile, after Liverpool lost Dempsey to Tottenham, the Reds' weekend went from bad to worse as they struggled yet again in front of goal, going down to Arsenal 2-0.

After a summer which saw them snatch the world-class Santi Cazorla but lose Robin Van Persie and Alexander Song, Arsene Wenger's side failed to score in their first two league games of the season. However they finally broke their goal drought at Anfield with strikes from Cazorla and Lukas Podolski.

Newcastle were able to keep their best players on board, but couldn't post three points from their draw against Aston Villa, with Alan Pardew admitting that Hatem Ben Arfa is the only stand out player in the side at the present time.
