The 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League has been an exciting one, as the contest for a spot in the play-offs went down to the wire. While teams were making efforts to reach the next phase of the tournament, there was no doubt one player over shadowed all of them.

Virat Kohli has had a sensational IPL season this year. The hard-hitting batsman has scored 919 runs in 14 games at an average of 91.90 with a strike rate of 152.40. He has scored four tons in the process and six 50s and taking his current form into consideration, he seems unstoppable.

He has almost single handedly taken Royal Challengers Bangalore to second spot on the points table. IBTimes UK takes a look at his statistics and the records that he has set this season.

4002 - Most runs by a player in the tournament since its inception.

919 - Highest aggregate of runs by a batsman in a single edition of the IPL (So far).

17 - Most 50 plus runs scored by a batsman in a single year in Twenty20 cricket. Chris Gayle had previously held the record by scoring 50 plus runs on 16 occasions in 2012.

10 - First batsman to post 10 50 plus scores in a T20 tournament. England's Jason Roy had nine such scores in the Natwest T20 Blast in 2014.

3 - First captain in IPL to post 500 plus runs in three separate seasons. He scored 634 runs in 2013 and 505 runs in 2015.
