Arsenal are reportedly set to complete the double signing of Alexis Sanchez and Morgan Schneiderlin in a deal worth up to £42m, according to the Metro.

Arsene Wenger has been monitoring the duo during the World Cup in Brazil, where the Frenchman is working as a television pundit.

It is claimed that French reporter Francois Pinet, who broke stories of Arsenal signing Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny has reported that the Gunners were close to signing Sanchez and Schneiderlin.

The north London club have been linked to the duo all through the summer transfer window as Wenger looks to bolster his squad to mount a serious title challenge this coming season. Lack of squad depth and the absence of quality replacements ended Arsenal's title challenge in the previous campaign.

The Chilean forward, who had his best season in Spain during last year's campaign, finds himself surplus to requirements, with current employers Barcelona looking to make a massive bid for Luis Suarez. Sanchez had a phenomenal World Cup before Chile crashed out against Brazil and is not short of suitors for his services.

Schneiderlin, on the other hand, was a surprise call up to the French World Cup squad after couple of key player's sustained injuries. However, Wenger has been keeping tabs on the midfielder for over a year after his impressive performances for Southampton in the Premier League.

The north London club are looking to bring in a tough tackling, yet ball-playing midfielder to play in front of the back four and Schneiderlin seems to be on top of Wenger's list as a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta.

Moreover, the French midfielder has given Arsenal hope by admitting that he wants to play in the Champions League. Schneiderlin, who has three years of his contract left to run, feels it's time for him to move on and has had a word with the directors of Southampton about the same.
