  • The 28-year-old will not feature in fixtures against San Marino and Italy.
  • Gunners travel to Old Trafford on 19 November.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil will have the chance to rest up ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Manchester United after he was left out of the Germany squad for upcoming internationals.

The reigning world champions take on minnows San Marino in a World Cup qualifier on 11 November before a friendly with old rivals Italy four days later. Ozil will have no role to play in those fixtures however and will remain in north London, with Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt and former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry among those selected ahead of him by Joachim Low.

Arsenal missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table after drawing at home to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and face an important run of games after the current international break.

Four days after their trip to Old Trafford the Gunners host Paris Saint-Germain in a game that will go some way in deciding who tops Group A in the Champions League, with both sides currently sat on 10 points.

The Gunners will then play twice a week right up to the busy festive period. Speaking to the press at the end of last week, Wenger welcomed the possibility of one of his star players being handed a rest.

"I think it would be an intelligent decision and I would welcome it," Wenger said. "We have to wait until he [Joachim Low] gives the selection out to see if Mesut gets a rest or not."

Ozil has been in spectacular form for Arsenal this season, scoring seven goals and laying on four assists in all competitions.
