On-loan Arsenal starlet Benik Afobe has been taking advice from Robin van Persie, as the striker continues to move forward from injury woes and push for current side Reading to seal promotion to the Premier League.

Afobe sealed a loan deal to Reading until the end of the season, and made his debut for the side as they defeated Blackpool 3-1 at the weekend.

Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere sent his best wishes to Afobe over twitter, with the West Ham fan saying of his teammate: "Congrats to @Afobe on a successfully debut for Reading! Don't win too much though I want the Hammers back where they belong!"

And as Afobe put in a good effort for Reading, the Gunners man admitted that Van Persie has been continuing to give him advice, despite his temporary move away from Arsenal for the season.

"Robin speaks to me a lot and it was nice for him to look after me when I was injured," Afobe told Get Reading.

"He always tells me to think about my finishing before the game. That way, when you get to the game situation you don't start panicking and you know exactly what you're going to do.

"It's about being clever. When you're training with the likes of Van Persie, as well as the defensive players, you realise how good they are and what stage you want to be at.

"As a youngster I'm always learning and it's the best thing for me to be playing with them."

Afobe is one of a few Arsenal youngsters out on loan at the moment, with Ryo Miyaichi at Bolton, Kyle Bartley at Rangers and Henri Lansbury at West Ham.

And Wenger will no doubt have plans for the younger players to have a big impact on the Gunners squad should they return in the summer.
