Kai Trump Wrist Injury: Miami Golfer Gets Treatment After College Debut

Kai Trump is receiving treatment after suffering a new wrist setback during her first college golf tournament for the University of Miami.

The 19-year-old freshman discussed the injury in a recent vlog after competing in the Golfweek Fall Challenge in South Carolina.

Trump said she accidentally struck the ground near a cart path during the tournament. She described feeling a 'shock' travel through her arm after the impact.

The pain returned later in the round, when she hit a driver on the 10th hole. Trump said she felt as though she had 'tore it again' and later clarified that she had not suffered a complete tear.

The incident came months after Trump underwent left-wrist surgery in January 2026. She previously said that procedure addressed injuries involving the stabilising tissues of her ECU tendon and damage to her triangular fibrocartilage complex.

How Kai Trump Injured Her Wrist

The Golfweek Fall Challenge marked Trump's first college golf tournament and her first event representing Miami. She competed as an individual rather than counting towards the Hurricanes' team score.

The tournament took place from 6–8 September at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Trump finished tied for 102nd in a field of 120 players.

She shot rounds of 78, 76 and 81 for a three-round total of 235. Her final-round 81 was her highest score of the tournament.

Trump later explained that the wrist problem began when she struck the ground near the cart path. She said the surface was unexpectedly hard and that the impact sent a shock through her arm.

'Let's just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard,' she said.

Trump continued playing after the initial incident. She later felt further pain while hitting a driver on the 10th hole.

'Then on the tenth hole, I hit my driver, and I felt like I tore it again,' she said.

Trump said she had not 'fully tear[ed]' the wrist and described the problem as a small 'sliver' involving cartilage and ligaments. Because those descriptions come from Trump herself, the precise medical diagnosis has not been independently established.

The new setback follows her January wrist surgery. At the time, Trump said the operation addressed injuries to the stabilising tissues of her ECU tendon and damage to her triangular fibrocartilage complex.

Kai Trump Receives Treatment as She Targets October Return

Trump has since turned to further treatment rather than another operation. In her recent vlog, she showed herself receiving what she described as 'stem cell' treatment from Dr. Jeffrey Wiegers.

Wiegers is an interventional pain specialist and is listed as chief medical officer of MuseCell Innovations. Trump has said the treatment is intended to help her recover without undergoing another surgery.

Trump first announced a verbal commitment to Miami in August 2024. She later formally signed with the Hurricanes in November 2025 before graduating from The Benjamin School in Florida on 15 May 2026.

Her college debut therefore came after a lengthy period of wrist rehabilitation. The September setback adds another stage to a golf comeback that had already included surgery and months away from competitive play.
