Liverpool are set to beat Arsenal in signing Javier Manquillo as the Atletico Madrid defender has arrived in England for his medical, according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to the north London club, while the Reds club have also been interested in his services. However, the right-back has rejected a chance to join Arsenal in order to make a switch to Anfield.

Manquillo will join Liverpool on a two-year loan deal after completing his medical on Tuesday. The Reds will have an option to make it permanent after the completion of a loan spell. He missed the Spanish champions' training session on Monday as he was flying to Merseyside to complete his transfer.

The Spaniard has four years remaining on his contract with Atletico and after his loan spell with Brendan Rodgers' side, he will still have two years left on his deal with the La Liga winners.

During the previous season, Manquillo saw his first team appearances being limited. The lack of time on the pitch has seen him leave the Spanish capital club on-loan in search of regular game time.

The Independent reports that Manquillo had offers from several clubs from Spain and France. However, the opportunity to feature in the Champions League with Liverpool has seen him turn down the opportunity in joining the Premier League runners-up.

Meanwhile, Liverpool lost to Manchester United in the International Champions Cup final in Miami. Louis van Gaal's side came from behind to seal a 3-1 victory over the Reds to win the pre-season competition.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard gave the lead to his side after converting the penalty in the first half. However, United fought back in the second half as two quick goals from Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata, followed by a late strike from Jesse Lingard in the final moments saw the Red Devils register a win in the final.
