Xavier Dolan is racking up quite the cast list for his upcoming movie The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan. Earlier this month, it was announced that Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington and Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak, Interstellar) had signed on for the project. Since then, he's added a few more faces, the latest being Scream's Bella Thorne and The Leftovers' Chris Zylka.

The 26-year-old filmmaker took to his personal Instagram account on 19 November to share that not only had he cast his "sweet, talented friend" Zylka and Thorne, but also The Returned's Emily Hampshire and "legendary" Harry Potter actor Michael Gambon too. Just the previous day, he had revealed True Detective star Taylor Kitsch would also appear in the picture by posting a black and white image of the actor, with the caption: "Taylor Kitsch my all-time fav joins John F. Party." Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates will also star.

The self-confessed personal movie concentrates on the theme of idolising the film industry from a young age. It will focus on an American actor (Harington) who finds himself the target of manic and potentially career-destroying media interest after his correspondence with an 11-year-old becomes public.

"I was that kid, writing love letters to actors – as a matter of fact it seems like I still am," Dolan previously admitted in a press release. "And that story is a tribute to both the kid I was and the idols of my childhood – some died, some just disappeared without a trace, because they didn't fit."

John F. Donovan will be Dolan's first English-language film. His previous credits include French-language successes I Killed My Mother, Tom At The Farm and most recently Mommy, which won the Jury Prize at 2014's Cannes Film Festival and was in the running for the prestigious Palme d'Or in the same year.

It also made the 'For Consideration' shortlist for best foreign language film at the 87th Academy Awards. He has just completed production on It's Only The End Of The World, starring Marion Cotillard and Black Swan's Vincent Cassel. He will begin shooting The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan in spring 2016.
