Adele and The Weeknd had a great night at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 22 May (Sunday). The Weeknd won eight awards following 19 nominations in 16 categories, while Adele won five, including the top artist. The show was hosted by singer Ciara along with rapper Ludacris.

The finalists for the award show are picked after taking into account the musicians digital songs sales, radio airplay, online streaming, touring and social media interactions. These data are tracked by Billboard and its data partners throughout the year. The data is tracked from 23 March 2015 until 17 March 2016, while Billboard music chart are tracked from 11 April 2015 to 2 April 2016.
