The second annual Comedy Awards took place on 29 April at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The awards honour the best in stand-up, television, film and online comic shows, as well as recognizing legendary comedians of our time.

"Bridesmaids" won Best Comedy, while "Rango" was declared the Best Animated Comedy. Melissa McCarthy won Best Actress for her role in "Bridesmaids" and Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin was Best Actor for "The Artist". Meanwhile, Don Rickles won the Johnny Carson Award.

"A master of what he did...the man had the magic to make you look good," actor John Stewart said, when presenting the award to Rickles.

"In fact, the humor that other film, TV and theater trophy shows strive to inject into otherwise stoic affairs just comes naturally for the Comedy Awards. Everybody who appears on the stage is a performer-writer. Everybody's writing their own stuff. There's no bad, forced, awkward awards-show patter. It ends up being a much more collaborative back and forth," said Casey Patterson, the Executive Vice-President of event production at Viacom Entertainment Group, who were the official sponsors of the event.
